Three Powerful Supplements That Will Dramatically Improve Your Health

Updated: Sep 16, 2023

To0 often these days we reach for prescription medicine to address our varying health ailments when nature has provided us much better and healthier alternatives without the damaging side effects. I have been on a journey for myself to learn about improving health and finding the best supplements for healing, beauty and general health in wellness. I started researching years ago when my then 11 year old daughter was sick with an unknown illness. After going through every department in our hometown children's hospital she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She was given an antidepressant called Amitriptyline for off label use. That means it wasn't for depression, she was given the medication because other studies showed it would reduce nerve pain. It did reduce her pain, but at considerable cost. She wasn't the same child anymore. Her personality dramatically changed and at age 11 she became suicidal. It was a terrible time. My husband and I made the decision to look for alternatives and we began the journey of healing through food, and natural alternatives and living a healthy lifestyle.

I need to stop right here and insert a DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor or any kind of medical professional and I am not giving professional medical advice. Consult a doctor before using any supplement or drug. Do your own research on the risks of each supplement or drug prior to using. I am only telling you what has worked for me and my family.

Our families journey toward wellness involves embracing a balanced lifestyle, nourishing foods, and targeted supplements that amplify our well-being. In this blog post, we delve into three extraordinary supplements that you have probably never heard of—astaxanthin, black seed oil, and sea buckthorn oil. By exploring their profound health benefits, backed by scientific research, we uncover how these three supplements found in nature can elevate your health in profound ways.

  1. Astaxanthin - A Radiant Shield of Antioxidant Power

Understanding Astaxanthin: Astaxanthin, derived from marine plants and the seafood they consume, is a potent antioxidant pigment. Its vibrant red or pink hue is what gives salmon, shrimp and pink flamingos their beautiful color. This powerful carotenoid has incredible antioxidant properties and has been extensively studied in recent years revealing some extraordinary benefits.

Expansive Health Benefits:

  • Cellular Fortification: Astaxanthin is a very powerful antioxidant. In fact, no more potent antioxidant has been found in nature. Astaxanthin is 550 times more potent than Vitamin E and 6,000 times more potent than Vitamin C. This potency equips it to combat free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and preserving cellular health. Moreover, astaxanthin can handle a variety of free radicals at the same time unlike most antioxidants which can only deal with one free radical at any given time. A study in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition (2017) highlighted astaxanthin's potential in reducing oxidative stress markers in healthy subjects.

  • Joint and Muscle Support: Research suggests astaxanthin alleviates discomfort and support joint and muscle health, making it and effective pain killer without any risk of addiction or side effects. A study published in the "Journal of Medicinal Food" in 2018 showed participants with chronic joint pain who received astaxanthin supplementation reported a statistically significant reduction in pain intensity and improved joint function compared to the placebo group, suggesting astaxanthin's potential as a natural remedy for pain management.

  • Skin Radiance and Health: Astaxanthin's ability to neutralize free radicals contributes to healthy skin from within, promoting youthful appearance and skin elasticity. Astaxanthin also protects the skin against UV rays. While it does not block UV rays it protects the skin against damage from UV rays. A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food (2018) explored astaxanthin's impact on skin health. Results revealed that supplementation led to improved skin moisture, elasticity, and overall appearance.

  • Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome: Laboratory studies have shown that Astaxanthin reduced levels of blood sugar and improved insulin sensitivity. In addition, astaxanthin supplementation reduced inflammation and lowered levels of oxidative stress. Other studies have shown that Astaxanthin prevented large body weight gain in mice fed with high fat or fructose diets and it can prevent fat from accumulating in the liver. It can reduce triglyceride levels as well.

2. Black Seed Oil - Unveiling Ancient Wellness Wisdom

Exploring Black Seed Oil: Derived from Nigella sativa seeds, black seed oil boasts a rich history in traditional medicine. Its remarkable composition of nutrients makes it a potent wellness ally.

Multifaceted Health Enhancements:

  • Immunomodulation: Black seed oil's immune-enhancing properties may support the body's defense mechanisms, bolstering overall immune health.

  • Inflammation Management: Scientific research indicates black seed oil's potential in managing inflammatory conditions, making it a potential natural remedy. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology (2011) published a study on black seed oil's immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. Findings highlighted its role in reducing inflammatory markers, affirming its traditional use.

  • Gut Health: Black seed oil, extracted from Nigella sativa seeds, has shown potential in promoting gut health through its diverse bioactive compounds. Notably, thymoquinone in black seed oil has exhibited anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can positively impact gut function. A study published in the "Journal of Medicinal Food" in 2016 investigated the effects of black seed oil on patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and found that participants who consumed black seed oil experienced significant improvements in their IBS symptoms, including reduced abdominal pain and bloating. Another study in the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (2018) explored the gastroprotective effects of black seed oil, suggesting it has potential in promoting gut health through its diverse bioactive compounds. These findings underscore the potential of black seed oil as a natural supplement to support gut health.

  • Sleep: Black seed oil has also garnered attention for its potential to improve sleep quality. Several medical studies have explored its effects on sleep, revealing promising results. Rich in compounds like thymoquinone and melatonin, black seed oil exhibits both anti-inflammatory and sedative properties. A study published in the "Journal of Ethnopharmacology" in 2018 demonstrated that black seed oil supplementation led to an increase in sleep duration and a reduction in sleep disturbances among participants with insomnia. Another study published in the "International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine" in 2015 found that the melatonin content in black seed oil contributed to improved sleep initiation and maintenance. These studies and more collectively suggest that black seed oil could play a valuable role in enhancing sleep quality and managing sleep-related disorders.

3. Sea Buckthorn Oil - Nature's Nurturer for Inner and Outer Wellness

Introduction to Sea Buckthorn Oil: Extracted from the berries of the sea buckthorn plant, this oil is a treasure trove of vitamins, minerals, and omega fatty acids.

Multidimensional Health Gains:

  • Skin and Hair Nourishment: Sea buckthorn oil's richness in nutrients offers benefits for skin and hair health. Its use in skincare products is linked to improved skin texture, reduced inflammation, and heightened collagen production.

  • Cardiovascular Boost: Emerging research suggests that sea buckthorn oil supports cardiovascular health by positively influencing cholesterol levels and enhancing blood vessel function. A study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2009) investigated sea buckthorn oil's effects on cholesterol levels. The study concluded that supplementation resulted in significant reductions in both total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels.

  • Gut Health: Sea buckthorn oil's potential to support digestive wellness, promote gut health, and alleviate discomfort has been the focus of many studies. In a noteworthy study investigating the impact of sea buckthorn oil on gut health, published in the "Journal of Functional Foods" in 2020, participants with mild digestive discomfort were given sea buckthorn oil supplements for eight weeks. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in gut health markers, including reduced inflammation and enhanced gut microbiota diversity. These findings underscore the potential of sea buckthorn oil as a dietary intervention to support and promote a healthy gut microbiome.

  • Alleviates Symptoms of Menopause: Sea buckthorn oil emerges as a promising natural remedy for women navigating the challenges of menopause. A study published in the "Journal of Menopausal Medicine" in 2019 sheds light on its potential benefits. Over a course of six months, menopausal women incorporating sea buckthorn oil into their routine witnessed remarkable improvements in various symptoms including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and sleep disruptions. The study's findings underscore sea buckthorn oil's potential to alleviate the discomfort associated with menopause and enhance the overall quality of life for women during this transitional phase. Rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, sea buckthorn oil's multifaceted nutritional profile makes it a valuable addition to the range of options available for managing menopausal symptoms naturally.

Nurturing Wellness with Nature's Wisdom

These three supplements can work synergistically to improve hair, skin, gut and over all health in dramatic ways. I added them in one by one starting with astaxanthin, then black seed oil and then sea buckthorn oil. After about a month I noticed that my skin was very soft. My feet were softer and the fine wrinkles on my face had diminished significantly. Another welcome benefit was my sleep quality improved significantly. I fell asleep faster and didn't wake up 3 times a night. If I did wake up, it didn't take me an hour to fall back asleep. One of the most important improvements I noticed was a dramatic reduction in hot flashes. I used to have terrible hot flashes every night and they were affecting my quality of life. After taking these supplements my hot flashes are almost gone and they don't wake me up at night anymore. This alone is worth taking these three powerhouse supplements!
